My tips include creating shopping lists, buying in bulk, using coupons, and choosing affordable yet nutritious options. I help seniors navigate the grocery store with ease. I try to post hints on a regular basis.
One thing I have learned over the last few years is that it is important to compare prices, for example discount stores may appear cheaper, but you need to check the sales at your grocery store. Perhaps substitute one product for another that is more reasonable and just as good and nutritious. Comparing prices seems like a lot of bother. I decided that since I get my pensions at the end of the month, I need to change my grocery shopping pattern. The right sales never seem to fall at the end of the month for my needs. Instead of spending $400 once per month, I am taking that amount of money out of the bank and stuffing 4 envelopes with an equal amount of money. By doing this, I will shop either every week or every 2 weeks depending on the sales. Shopping with cash instead of plastic is challenging but also fun. Did I overspend the cash on what I want or did I follow my meal plan for the week. Therein lies the trick. When you shop with your sale flyers or online apps, you can plan a menu for the week and shop only for what you need. This reduces impulse buying! For real, I have been paying cash only for the last month and it is starting to show benefits. I hope this helps! Have a great week. See you Saturday.
